Faculty Plant Seeds for Student Opportunity and Innovation

William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor Todd Wehner and his wife, Delmarie, have decided to include a gift to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in their estate plans to establish a fellowship endowment benefiting graduate students enrolled in the Department of Horticultural Science. The Dr. Todd C. Wehner and Delmarie Wehner R.T. (R) (M) Horticulture Fellowship Endowment will be the result.

Couple’s Gift Supports Students in Engineering, Education

Ron Hairr can remember taking out student loans in the 1970s to fund his way through the civil engineering program at NC State while being married, working and going to school. Now, he and his wife, Cathy Faircloth Hairr, a 1979 graduate of the College of Education, have established a gift in their estate to be shared equally between the College of Education and College of Engineering and provide full cost-of-attendance scholarships every year for two students in need.

Delighting Plant Lovers With Unique Blooms

Tony Avent, a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences alumnus who studied horticulture under J.C. Raulston, has seen a dramatic uptick in business -- and meaningful connections -- as the owner of Plant Delights Nursery, which ships rare and unusual perennials worldwide. The mail-order nursery funds Juniper Level Botanic Garden, a 28-acre research and education garden in Raleigh. Avent and his wife Anita have begun to create an endowment that will gift the garden to NC State as a bequest.
