Three Honored as Distinguished Engineering Alumni

Three College of Engineering graduates and committed supporters — Admiral Daryl L. Caudle, Robert E. Troxler and Deborah Bell Young — received the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award as part of NC State’s Red and White Week 2023. The award was established by the college’s faculty in 1966 and is the highest honor bestowed upon alumni.

Yuan Honored With RJ Reynolds Award

Fuh-Gwo Yuan, Samuel P. Langley Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, recently received the 2023 R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Extension. The award is supported by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company through the NC State Engineering Foundation and presents recipients with $25,000 paid out over five years.

Robotic Prosthetic Ankles Improve ‘Natural’ Movement, Stability

Robotic prosthetic ankles that are controlled by nerve impulses allow amputees to move more “naturally,” improving their stability, according to a new study. Helen Huang, corresponding author of the study, is also the Jackson Family Distinguished Professor in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering at NC State and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Keung Named Goodnight Distinguished Scholar

Albert Keung, associate professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, has been named the Goodnight Distinguished Scholar in Innovation in Biotechnology and Biomolecular Engineering. The position was made possible by a gift from NC State alumni Dr. James and Mrs. Ann Goodnight.

NC State to Lead Regional Semiconductor Innovation Hub

NC State has been awarded $39.4 million from the Department of Defense to serve as the leader of a regional innovation hub in wide bandgap semiconductors. John Muth, Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is the primary investigator on the award, and Fred Kish, MC Dean Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is the director of the new hub.
