Golden LEAF Awards Ag Institute Nearly $1M

The Golden LEAF Foundation has awarded nearly $1 million to NC State’s Agricultural Institute, a two-year program that prepares students for careers in agriculture. The funds, which will be used over five years, will support the animal agriculture industry by expanding the pipeline of available talent for jobs.

AGI Grad Named Pig Farmer of Tomorrow

Supported in part by private giving, NC State's Agricultural Institute offers two-year degrees that prepare graduates to work in agriculture. Bailee Arnold is an AGI alum, and she's now managing a 4,000-head sow farm at Maxwell Foods in Goldsboro. Arnold, recently named a 2019 Pig Farmer of Tomorrow, jokes that AGI helped "hog tie" her brain with regard to agricultural work.

Smithfield Foods Supports Soldier to Agriculture Program

The Smithfield Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Smithfield Foods Inc., has given $200,000 to help support NC State's Soldier to Agriculture Program, a partnership between the Agricultural Institute and the career center at Fort Bragg.

Jeremiah Jones wanted to skip college and go right into farming, but with the support of scholarships, he found a home with NC State's Agricultural Institute. He and his wife Jessica, a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences poultry science major, now run a family farm called GrassRoots Pork Co.
