The College of Design's first funded faculty award endowment honors Gene Bressler, influential professor of landscape architecture. The Gene Bressler Landscape Architecture Faculty Award Endowment will provide funds to ensure extraordinary research, teaching and outreach, opportunities for travel and academic enrichment for faculty.

Fellowship Program to Foster Next Generation of Agricultural Scientists

The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) announced a $2.7 million grant to launch the FFAR Fellowship Program. An NC State team led by John Dole will manage the program, which is geared toward combining cutting-edge food and agriculture science research with professional development training -- to better prepare graduate students for the workforce.

Envisioning Excellence

The College of Education launched the Envisioning Excellence for Community College Leadership Program, with funding from the John M. Belk Endowment, in 2015. The college's Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) for community college executives has been transformed, and the program is leading NC State’s efforts to expand professional development opportunities and create a statewide resource network for community college leaders.

Building a Better Hair Dye

NC State researchers have created the largest publicly available chemical database of hair dye substances as a resource for developing a new generation of hair color products that are safer for consumers, stylists and the environment. The work is boosted by the Max A. Weaver Dye Library, a collection of thousands of dye and fabric samples that the Eastman Chemical Company uniquely gifted to the university.

Popular Reading Collection coming to D.H. Hill Learning Commons

NCSU Libraries has announced the January debut of a Popular Reading Collection of more than 400 titles, ranging from fiction to nonfiction and cookbooks to graphic novels. Drawing upon selections from the National Public Radio (NPR) Book Reviews, the collection is funded by the Parents Association Endowment and the NCSU Libraries.

Olympian Now Champions NC State

Jean Driscoll, the new executive director of development for NC State's College of Design, knows a few things about commitment, perseverance and diligence. Driscoll won 12 medals — five of them gold — in the Paralympic Games over 12 years, earned two Olympic exhibition medals and was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2000 she became the first person to win the Boston Marathon eight times.

Space Still Awaits

It’s been almost five years since Christina Hammock Koch was chosen by NASA to be an astronaut. The NC State alumna, among the guest speakers at Red and White Night: A Celebration of Philanthropy last fall, is staying busy with training and outreach efforts while she waits for her first mission -- likely a stint on the International Space Station.
