Music and Access: The Class of 2019 Legacy

Park Scholars give back – this mindset is at the core of the program's mission and culture. The Class of 2019 partnered with the Town of Clayton and the Clayton Community Recreational Foundation to work on Harmony Playground, an inclusive park intended to foster fun and friendship among children of all abilities.

McLauchlan Leadership Challenge Brings Jenkins MBA Student ‘Out of the Chair, Into the Air’

Sahir Patel came to NC State's Jenkins MBA program to gain independence and see the world. Patel has wanted to go skydiving since childhood, and the McLauchlan Leadership Series put him on a path to do that as part of his personal journey.

Emerson Barnhill graduated in May from the College of Natural Resources with a degree in sustainable materials and technology. The four-year varsity swimmer stayed plenty busy while at NC State, and her experience led to a desire to shape the way big businesses approach sustainable practices.

Ghosh Named William A. Klopman Distinguished Professor in Textiles

Tushar Ghosh has been named the William A. Klopman Distinguished Professor in Textiles in recognition of his outstanding service to the Wilson College of Textiles and the broader textile industry. The professor in textile engineering, chemistry and science has been a faculty member since he graduated from NC State in 1987 with a Ph.D. in fiber and polymer science. He has mentored more than 40 graduate students.

Helping Families Weather the Storm

After Pat and Almira Dallas' home was badly damaged during Hurricane Florence, they were faced with their dog T-Bone's cancer diagnosis. Fortunately, thanks to generosity from the Petco Foundation and Blue Buffalo — and the expert team at NC State Veterinary Hospital — the Dallases can focus on getting the best possible care for T-Bone, rather than the cost.

Former Park Scholar Jessica Ritter is a Force for Change

When Jessica Ritter decided to forego veterinary school for a year after graduating from NC State in 2010, she did not know how much of an impact that decision would have on her life, or in the world. Now, the former Park Scholar serves as director of water resources and coastal policy at the National Wildlife Federation, where she guides policy and advocacy work on issues ranging from clean water to national infrastructure investments and from disaster response to coastal community resilience.

Student Spotlight: Kaitlin Perkins

Kaitlin Perkins packed her time at NC State with extraordinary experiences. A Caldwell Fellow and Pack Promise scholar, the May graduate in biological and agricultural engineering landed sought-after internships with Johnson and Johnson Vision Care and Campbell’s Soup Company, introduced former First Lady Michelle Obama to the campus community at a 2016 event, and was a leader with the National Society of Black Engineers and Alternative Spring Break programs.

Emily Caporali’s Belltower memories began before she ever enrolled at NC State, and though she graduated in 2017, she is still making extraordinary memories at the site – with help from her fiancé Chase Timmons and her longtime friend, retired vice chancellor of student affairs Tom Stafford.

NC State Announces 2020 Hall of Fame Class

Private support provides extraordinary opportunity for NC State student-athletes, and a special group of them will now be called Hall of Famers. An Olympic gold medalist, a No. 1 NFL Draft pick and four of the top performers in the first 50 years of the Atlantic Coast Conference highlight the 2020 class of the NC State Athletic Hall of Fame, along with a barrier-breaking athlete who changed the course of competition for both his school and conference.

Intelligent Life

From chromosomes deep in the heart of a cell to exoplanets in the farthest reaches of space, Goldwater Scholar Ana Sofia Uzsoy is doing research to help us understand the universe at every scale. The Park Scholar is already part of the team in the molecular biophysics lab of assistant professor Mary Elting.
