The Heart of the Matter

Professors Clarke Atkins and Bruce Keene came to NC State from the University of Wisconsin 30 years ago. Thanks to the Jane Lewis Seaks Distinguished Professorship in Companion Animal Medicine, their careers and research in the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Cardiology Service have remained linked.

Goodnight Scholars Program Announces Transfer Class of 2022

The Goodnight Scholars Program's Transfer Class of 2022 includes 20 recipients who represent 14 North Carolina counties and 11 community colleges. These students will join the 50 high school students selected for the Class of 2023 and increase the total number of annual undergraduate Goodnight Scholars to 245 in fall 2019.

Meet the Solomon Scholars

Nineteen extraordinary students were part of the College of Sciences’ signature undergraduate scholarship program in 2018-19. The Daniel L. Solomon Scholars Program is named for the college’s inaugural dean, who spent more than 30 years at NC State before retiring in 2015. Donor support is critical to funding the program, which offers community-building and experiential learning opportunities in addition to renewable scholarship awards.

Six NC State Students Selected for the Miller Fellowship

Six of NC State's most entrepreneurial May graduates have been selected as the 2019 Miller Fellows cohort. For these students, the next six months will be a challenging but rewarding journey as they put Think and Do into action, developing their startups full time. Established in 2014 and supported by private gifts, the Miller Fellows Program provides "rent and ramen" to graduates who want to pursue entrepreneurial ventures.

Success by Design

May 2019 graduate Téa Blumer's time as an art and design student at NC State equipped her for success as an entrepreneur. Her app, iScribble, won top honors in the Arts Venture category at the 2019 Lulu eGames and she will return to NC State as a Miller Fellow.

2019-20 Cohort of Kenan Fellows Announced

On National Teacher Day, the Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership announced the 27 North Carolina public school educators who have been awarded 2019-20 fellowships. This cohort of K-12 teachers were selected from a highly qualified applicant pool, and their program stipends and professional development experiences are made possible through the generous support of corporate, education, foundation and government partners.

Graduate Student Documents Green Book Sites Across NC

With the help of a University Graduate Fellowship, public history doctoral student Lisa Withers is working with the North Carolina Green Book Project, an effort to document Green Book sites across North Carolina and help tell the story of how travel guides are records of African American histories.

For Jack the Cat, Happiness at Last

It took time for Jack the cat to adjust to living with Kirstin Smith after he was rescued, and then he hit another setback: an oral tumor. Thanks to generous support from the Petco Foundation and Blue Buffalo, Smith could focus on getting Jack the best possible care rather than on its cost, and now he's thriving.
