A Friendship, a Hurricane and a Lasting Tribute

After Hurricane Florence wreaked havoc throughout North Carolina, Brett Wu grew keenly aware of the needs of storm victims, including animals. Wu decided to support those animals and honor his friend Ashley Zibura, a resident in the ophthalmology service at the NC State Veterinary Hospital, with a plaque in the Gallop of Honor.

Can Art Alleviate Environmental Worries?

The artist duo of Caitlin & Misha will bring clarity to the environmental data that bombards us in a large-scale visualization project at the Hunt Library this spring. They will be in residence through NCSU Libraries’ Immersive Scholar program, which is part of an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation project grant to continue the Libraries’ pioneering work with large-scale, research visualization technologies and to support the advancement of tools and techniques for developing and sharing such visual content for research.

The Goodnight Scholars Program has named 100 finalists from 44 North Carolina counties to participate in its Finalist Interview Day, scheduled for March 2 at the James B. Hunt Jr. Library.

New Project Supports Beginner Meat Producers in NC

NC Choices has launched a new project aiming to increase the number of beginning farmers in North Carolina raising meat in pasture-based or silvopasture systems. Project funding comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service. Supported in part by private donations, NC Choices promotes sustainable food systems by advancing the local, niche and pasture-based meat supply chain.

Two Students Awarded Sensus Reach Scholarships

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering announced that Shanzila Chowdhury of Raleigh and Artem Minin of Cary are recipients of the Sensus Reach Scholarship. Their one-year stipends to cover tuition and fees are made possible by a gift from Raleigh-based technology company Sensus, a Xylem brand.

Institute for Emerging Issues Receives Grant from Duke Endowment

The Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI) has received a $886,000 grant from the Duke Endowment for its Rural Faith Communities in Action project. The grant continues the work of the institute's Thriving Rural Communities initiative, which connects faith leaders to one another and resources throughout the year through peer networks, and it ensures continuation of IEI’s Rural Faith Communities as Anchor Institutions Conference and participation of rural faith leaders in annual forums.

Enrichment experiences are vital to a student's education and preparation for life beyond NC State. Embracing that approach, Park Scholar Belton Moore has studied abroad in China and Mexico, attended a public policy leadership conference at the Harvard Kennedy School and completed an internship with the Office of the Governor.

Making Her Mark

Stephanie Cogdell found a home at NC State and, as a volunteer, board member, mentor and donor, she has been giving back ever since. She has established a planned gift that benefits, in part, the Black Alumni Society’s Augustus Witherspoon Graduate Scholarship Endowment and Lawrence M. Clark Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship funds.
