Park Foundation Honored with 2018 Menscer Cup

The NC State University Foundation presented its highest honor to the Park Foundation earlier this month. Adelaide Gomer, daughter of the late Roy and Dorothy Park, accepted the Menscer Cup in role as president of the Park Foundation, which created the Park Scholarships program in 1996.

Statistics Alumna Makes Pledge to Create Professorships, Scholarships

Statistics alumna Nancy Ridenhour is an expert in assessing risk. When it came time to decide how to direct her estate, she knew NC State was a sure bet. She recently made a substantial planned gift to the College of Sciences and the Park Scholarships and Caldwell Fellows programs that includes funding for professorships, scholarships and experiential learning opportunities.

Design Camp and TRIO Team to Offer New Opportunities

Two high school students had the extraordinary opportunity to attend this year's Design Camp at NC State's College of Design thanks to assistance from the Marvin and Cindy Malecha Dream Scholarship, established by the dean emeritus of the college and his wife. The students' participation was also part of the first year of a collaboration between the camp and TRIO, a set of nationally funded programs established to help students overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education.

New to the CVM Family: Meet Niki Theobald

A love of animals has guided Colorado native Niki Theobald through a career including roles at wolf rescue, at zoos and at the Duke Lemur Center. Now Theobald has joined the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine as the director of development for the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Foundation, where she'll work with major donors to secure support for ongoing research, educational opportunities and cutting-edge patient care.

The Jenkins Master of Accounting program, established with the leadership and support of Benjamin Jenkins III, is marking its 25th anniversary. The generosity of alumni and friends of the program is key to ensuring that the majority of students receive some form of merit-based financial aid, including MAC fellowships, scholarships and graduate assistantships.

Family Honors Longtime Head of Ceramic Engineering Department

The family of the late William "Wurth" Kriegel has named in his honor the room in Engineering Building I that's occupied by the head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE). Kriegel spent 32 years at NC State as an instructor, professor and then department head in the Department of Ceramic Engineering, which grew into today’s MSE, but his office door was always open to students.

Four Faculty Named AAAS Fellows

Four NC State faculty members have been elected as fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science: C.T. "Tim" Kelley, Drexel Professor of Mathematics; Jennifer Kuzma, Goodnight-North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation Distinguished Professor in Social Sciences and co-director of the Genetic Engineering and Society Center; Ilse C.F. Ipsen, professor of mathematics; and Louis A. Martin-Vega, dean of the College of Engineering. They are among 416 scientists to be honored this year by AAAS, the world’s largest scientific society.

Like Son, Like Father

Inspired by his son Lewis' bequest to benefit NC State's Apiculture Science Fund, College of Engineering alumnus Jim Cauble decided to create a scholarship fund through his own planned gift. His gift will also support areas of interest to his children, making philanthropy a Cauble family tradition.

Engineering Foundation Creates Young Alumni Advisory Board

In an effort to help engage younger NC State College of Engineering alumni in their relationship with their alma mater and provide an opportunity for them to connect with one another, the Engineering Foundation has created the Young Alumni Advisory Board (YAAB). This group of 18 young professionals represents various engineering disciplines from NC State classes of 2003 and later.
