Building A Legacy

Fitts-Woolard Hall is beginning to take shape quickly on NC State's Centennial Campus, thanks to the generosity of more than 300 donors and a transformational naming gift from industrial engineering alumni Edward P. Fitts and Edgar R. Woolard. The College of Engineering has raised more than $47 million (of a $60 million goal) for the public-private project. Alumni and friends still have a chance to make a gift that will have a lasting impact on thousands of future students and faculty.

Byoungho Jin Named Albert Myers Distinguished Professor in Textile Economics and Management

Byoungho “Ellie” Jin has been named the Albert Myers Distinguished Professor in Textile Economics and Management, in the Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management. She comes to the College of Textiles from the Bryan School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with nearly 20 years of experience in the field of brand marketing and global apparel retailing.

Now, the College of Natural Resources alumnus and Opelika native is looking to give back to his community and state with a run for legislative office. Bestselling author and North Carolina native Wiley Cash​ headlines the Friends of the Library Fall Reception on Thursday evening, Oct. 18, in the Duke Energy Hall at the Hunt Library. Cash will read from and discuss his new novel The Last Ballad and talk about life as a creative writing professor, author and writer-in-residence.

$2 Million Grant from ECMC Foundation Will Enhance Research on Career and Technical Education

The ECMC Foundation has awarded the NC State College of Education a $2 million, three-year grant to enhance and strengthen postsecondary career and technical education (CTE) research at universities nationwide. Through this grant, the foundation will sponsor a CTE research program at NC State aimed at providing resources for new scholars, as well as creating a network of resources for scholars to continue their work.

An Unforgettable Lesson in Humanity

Alexandru Pop was eagerly awaiting an externship at an animal hospital near the North Carolina coast when Hurricane Florence struck. As he helped with relief efforts for animals impacted by the storm, Pop developed a broader view of the power of veterinary medicine. CVM's Disaster Relief Fund will continue to help animals that have been rescued and sheltered.

Alumnus’ Ties to NC State Inspired Endowments

NC State alumnus Glenn Futrell, who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering in 1963 and 1965, respectively, believes in giving back. Futrell and his wife, Phyllis, established a scholarship and two endowed professorships in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering, and they have supported the new Fitts-Woolard Hall.

Former Pentair Fellow Developing Learning Experiences in Virtual Reality

Colin Keenan, a former Pentair Fellow and now a staff member at NCSU Libraries, has received a $44,000 grant from the American Society of Plant Biologists to develop learning experiences related to plant biology and photosynthesis. The Pentair Foundation funded the Pentair Fellows program for Libraries graduate students to develop a curriculum for workshops on STEM tools and technologies.
