For the second year in a row, Money magazine identified NC State as the best value for students attending college in North Carolina. Its annual Best Colleges for Your Money list ranks schools based on a combination of educational quality, affordability and alumni success. This year, analysts weighed more than two dozen data points to grade 727 public and private institutions in the United States.

Entrepreneurship in Action: Miller Fellows to Exhibit at Entrepalooza

The 2018 Miller Fellows class will be among exhibitors at NC State's Entrepalooza event Sept. 13. Ventures include a new way to speed up the aging process of alcohol, a travel solution to prevent soap spills, a spatial intelligence platform, a cryptocurrency trading operation, a solution to optimize food distribution and an app that makes workouts more engaging.

Think Pink: Distinguished Professor Helps Develop New Hydrangea

Tom Ranney, J.C. Raulston Distinguished Professor in the Department of Horticulture Science, led the effort to create the "pink hydrangea," an NC State-bred twist on a classic native garden shrub. The plant has been a hit with consumers and has helped generate more than $1 million for breast cancer research.

Summer in New York: Honors Scholar Interns at American Museum of Natural History

University Honors Scholar Colin Gravelle has come face to face with some interesting artifacts working as a summer anthropology intern at the American Musem of Natural History in New York. Gravelle has spent much of his time writing about the Maori, the indigenous Polynesian people of New Zealand.

Undergraduate Research Program Provides Early Vet School Experience

The College of Veterinary Medicine's undergraduate research program is an immersive introduction to the college and to the wide world of veterinary medicine. Launched in 2013, the Undergraduate Research Program provides a formal outlet for faculty-student research experiences. Recent participants include Greg Bacola and Goodnight Scholar Kelsie Dougherty, now in her second year at CVM.

Chemist Smirnov Named Scott Distinguished Professor

The College of Sciences has named Alex I. Smirnov of the Department of Chemistry as the Governor Robert W. Scott Distinguished Professor. Smirnov, a prominent chemist who joined the NC State faculty in 2000, conducts interdisciplinary research in the areas of magnetic resonance, spin physics, nanotechnology, and biophysics of lipid bilayers and membrane proteins.
