A Distinguished Professorship for an Extraordinary Scientist

Ed Breitschwerdt, a professor of medicine and infectious diseases who came to the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1982, has influenced many students to step through the college’s doors and then out into the veterinary profession. He also has trained many members of the CVM family — residents, interns, now-colleagues — who have gone on to become endowed professors. On April 3, he became one himself when he received the Melanie S. Steele Distinguished Professorship in Medicine.

Education Student Ashley Lawson Named Truman Scholar

Ashley Lawson, a Park Scholar and senior majoring mathematics education and mathematics, has been named as one of 59 recipients of the prestigious Truman Scholarship, which invests in the potential of individuals committed to public service leadership. She is NC State's 10th Truman Scholar.

Time for the Book Sale

The Friends of the Libraries is hosting the annual Frank B. Armstrong Memorial Book Sale, April 16-20 on the Brickyard. The sale is a wonderful way to support the NCSU Libraries while bringing home treasures. All proceeds benefit the Libraries’ endowment and last year the effort raised $17,200.

Davidian Wins American Statistical Association Founders Award

The College of Sciences' Marie Davidian, J. Stuart Hunter Distinguished Professor in Statistics, has received the Founders Award from the American Statistical Association (ASA). The award is one of ASA’s highest honors and recognizes members who have rendered distinguished service to the organization.

2018 Lulu eGames Winners

On April 5, more than 500 people gathered in Stewart Theatre to see the next generation of entrepreneurs at the Lulu eGames LIVE, NC State's annual startup competition. Awards categories included one made possible by the Daugherty Entrepreneurialism Endowment in partnership with the Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science.

Students for University Advancement partnered with The Blood Connection to host a blood drive on March 26. For each person who gave blood, the Blood Connection donated $10 to the NC State Student Success Fund.

Time to Give Back

Phyllis and Steven Rea – a College of Engineering graduate and Campaign Cabinet member – are giving back by establishing a named endowment for mechanical engineering collections at NCSU Libraries. The fund will provide resources for students, and particularly those in the College of Engineering, to prepare them for professional life after graduation.
