Let There Be Light – The Path to No Microbes

Dr. Dimitris Argyropoulos, Finland Distinguished Professor of Chemistry in the College of Natural Resources' Department of Forest Biomaterials, and two other faculty members are creating the company Lumicide. It will produce an innovative nontoxic, green additive for an antimicrobial paint activated by air and light. Painted surfaces, like doorknobs, will kill microbes, viruses and fungi on contact -- ideal for places like hospitals, cruise ships and home nurseries.

A Focus on Fibers and Fashion

Jeanna Young, recipient of the Jay Purvis Scholarship, is an aspiring textile designer pursuing a second degree in the College of Design's art and design program, with a focus on fibers and fashion. She has traveled to the Netherlands to further explore her interests in textile design, an effort made possible through a grant from the NC State Office of Undergraduate Research.

New Merit Scholarship to Support Production Agriculture Students

The Marsha K. Prestage Scholarship provides full tuition assistance to a student who demonstrates a strong desire to advance the state’s production agriculture industry. Established by Marsha Prestage, treasurer and director of Prestage Farms, the scholarship deepens the Prestage family’s dedicated support for NC State's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
