An Extraordinary Opportunity

Finances should never hinder a student's academic journey. We're smoothing the path to greater heights and bolder dreams.

Do you believe that financial circumstances shouldn’t limit a student’s future? Do you believe possibility should never feel out of reach? That’s what the Extraordinary Opportunity Scholarship Initiative is all about.

Currently, roughly half of NC State undergrads qualify for need-based aid based on federal guidelines.

The average need per student is $16,000.

We’re able to meet 78% of the need through scholarships, grants and loans.
The gap that remains, though, can make the difference between a student pursuing their dreams or setting those ambitions aside.

Through the Extraordinary Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (EOSI), we’re coming together to make sure that every accepted student can make the most out of their chance to join the Pack because when we give first-generation students and those from low- to middle-income families the opportunity to succeed by removing financial barriers, the results are extraordinary.

Make a Gift

“Do it because you want to and because you know it is going to help. It is a certainty that it will help someone. It helped me.”

— Will Gibson ’23

Why EOSI?

  • More than 70% of our undergraduates apply for financial aid.
  • Approximately 50% of our undergraduates qualify for some form of need-based aid, based on federal guidelines.
  • The average cost of attendance at NC State is $24,500. Although we are recognized for our affordability, a student cannot hope to cover this cost through summer jobs or by working during the school year.
  • In the 2019-20 academic year, the 􀁄􀁖􀁓􀁓􀁆􀁏􀁕􀀁total unmet annual need for North Carolina residents 􀁂􀁕􀁕􀁆􀁏􀁅􀁊􀁏􀁈􀀁at NC State was $32 million.
  • We lose promising scholars because we currently cannot meet 100% of need.
  • With a combination of endowed and current-use gifts, EOSI is closing the gap in real-time and ensuring we can continue to provide for our students for years to come.
  • The first 31 EOSI awards were made for the spring 2021 semester, benefiting students at each of NC State’s colleges. This number increased to approximately 50 in fall 2021.

All statistics are provided annually from the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
