Advances in human and animal health, farm and forest productivity, emerging technologies and the overall quality of life have long been at the forefront of NC State’s contributions to the world. The scope and promise of its achievements have never been greater — from plant genomics and biomanufacturing to sustainable forestry, from innovations in education to unique university, business and government partnerships. Our programs and outreach efforts often cross traditional industry boundaries to play a huge role in bringing this progress to the people of North Carolina and beyond, and are important in testing new innovations and identifying new needs as well.
These initiatives are all part of our mission to the people of our great state. Today, NC State is a 21st century land-grant university leveraging traditional strengths to meet contemporary needs. This heritage of public service must remain a priority, one supported by private gifts raised during the Achieve! campaign. We must continue to provide North Carolina’s taxpayers with real dividends, through education and outreach programs that serve students in grades kindergarten through 12, and through partnerships with individuals, communities and businesses that focus the highest possible levels of expertise and resources on identifying innovative solutions to real-world problems.
In addition, NC State — and, in particular, its Centennial Campus — plays a leading role in regional economic development though outreach programs. Businesses and government agencies often require research and development facilities to be located near our faculty and hire graduate students to supplement project teams on a just-in-time basis. With additional resources generated by the campaign, the university can develop outreach programs to accelerate the growth of the kind of high-tech, high-growth industries so important in a global economy.
