Enterprise Risk Management Initiative
A $1 million gift from the Bank of America Foundation enabled the College of Management to establish its Enterprise Risk Management Initiative. This initiative is becoming recognized as a national and international thought leader in enterprise risk management (ERM) and in the implementation of ERM in strategy development and corporate governance. Among many other efforts, the ERM Initiative offers a popular series of ERM Roundtables each year, attracting between 100-200 people a session for knowledge sharing and networking.
Deloitte Professor of Enterprise Risk Management
In 2007, the Deloitte Foundation provided funding to establish the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Professorship, currently held by Mark Beasley, director of the Enterprise Risk Management Initiative. Beasley’s leadership in this field of study has led to a significant program of research, outreach and engagement with industries seeking to manage risk across the enterprise. This includes conferences and seminars for bank boards of advisors, roundtables for ERM practitioners, and new courses for students in the Master of Business Administration and Master of Accounting degree programs.
Services Science, Management and Engineer Curriculum
IBM selected NC State as one of its lead universities for developing new curricula in the field of Services Science, Management and Engineer (SSME) in 2006, leading to development of courses offered in the College of Management and the College of Engineering. This effort launched the development of cross-disciplinary curricula in SSME at NC State.
Professional Service Management and Innovation Management Curriculum
In 2007, Xerox and the College of Management established a three-year collaborative project that will lead to new graduate courses in professional service management and innovation management. Included is the development of a multidisciplinary Service Innovation Lab, where graduate and undergraduate students work with companies to develop innovative service concepts.
Center for the Study of Free Markets and Institutions
A gift commitment from the BB&T Charitable Foundation will support establishment of the BB&T Center for the Study of Free Markets and Institutions in the College of Management. The funding will endow a BB&T Professorship of Free Markets and Institutions and a BB&T Graduate Fellowship in the college’s Department of Economics. The Center will support research and the development of new undergraduate and graduate courses in the philosophical foundations of capitalism.
