Prague, By Design

Most students who have traveled abroad will tell you that the experience changed not only how they look at the world, but also how they view themselves. Such was the experience College of Design student, Stephanie Devan Abee (’01) had during her studies abroad at the college’s Prague Institute.

Impressed by their daughter’s overseas study experience, Robert and Judy Abee, along with Sugar Tree Properties, pledged a gift of Watauga County property and an additional $500,000 to establish the Stephanie Devan Prague Scholarship for students who wish to study in Prague. When the pledge is completed, this endowment will be the College’s largest travel scholarship, providing more than $30,000 in awards each year.

Many NC State students are attracted to the Prague Institute, which boasts studios in architecture, fashion and costume design, and landscape design. The Institute is centrally located on a medieval street in old town Prague, one of the city’s main art districts. The Stephanie Devan Prague Scholarship will assure for years to come that NC State students will have as much of an impact internationally as they do right here on campus.
