Dale Shepherd NC Christmas Tree Research Endowment
Pledges totaling $210,000 helped to establish the Dale Shepherd NC Christmas Tree Research Endowment. Its purpose is to provide a continuing resource of research funding to ensure and enhance the successful future of the state’s $100 million Christmas tree industry. Contributors include Family Christmas Tree Farm Owners in Western North Carolina and surrounding counties in Virginia and Tennessee.
Professorship and Undergraduate Scholarship in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management
An anonymous donor’s deferred $1 million gift ($400,000 from the sale of real estate to fund Charitable Remainder Unitrust, plus the remainder of the donor’s assets via his will) provides funds for a professor and students to study and build an understanding of the various ways youth-oriented recreation and sports programs can contribute to a healthy lifestyle. This commitment will help NC State earn recognition as a leader in health/recreation research.
