Kay T. and Edward E. Hood Jr. Scholarships

Kay T. and Edward E. (’52, ’53) Hood Jr. of Banner Elk and North Palm Beach, Fla., have established the Edward E. and Kay T. Hood Scholarship Endowment, the John T. Caldwell/Edward E. and Kay T. Hood Endowed Scholarship, and the Edward E. and Kay T. Hood Graduate Fellowship. The Hoods also have named the alumni boardroom in the new Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center. Edward Hood has served on the university’s Board of Trustees and as a co-chair of the campaign’s executive committee. Hood has received a Distinguished Engineering Alumni award, an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree, and a Watauga Medal.

Tab Williams

After graduating from NC State in 1950, Tab Williams founded a small company in 1963 that grew to become Wilco Travel and Fuel Plazas. By the late 1990s, it was the largest independent gasoline retailer in North Carolina. A devoted philanthropist, Tab has supported NC State for many years. His Charitable Annuity Lead Trust supports three NC State scholarships through annual gifts. He was a major contributor to the new Park Alumni Center on Centennial Campus.

Pat and Anne Gavaghan

Anne and Pat  Gavaghan, an All-American swimmer and five-time ACC Champion in the 200- and 400-yard butterfly, gave numerous donations to the Caldwell Fellows Scholarship Program, the Entrepreneurial Education Initiative and the College of Natural Resources. Gavaghan is owner, president and CEO of Keystone Corporation, an office industrial and real estate development company.
