College of Design
Prague, By Design
Impressed by their daughter Stephanie’s (’11) overseas study experience at the College of Design’s Prague Institute, Robert and Judy Abee, along with Sugar Tree Properties, pledged a gift of Watauga County property and an additional $500,000 to establish the Stephanie Devan Prague Scholarship for students who wish to study in Prague. When the pledge is completed, this endowment will be the College’s largest travel scholarship, providing more than $30,000 in awards each year.
Industrial-Sized Support
Supporting his fundamental beliefs about the power of design, L. Franklin Bost (’68), along with his wife, Janet, is seeing to it that NC State’s industrial design graduate students will become important players in changing the future through design. Specifically, the Bosts pledged $100,000 to endow a partial fellowship fund for the Department of Industrial Design, establishing the L. Franklin Bost Industrial Design Fellowship.
Momentous Achievements - College of Design
Eduardo Catalano donated $200,000 to establish the Robert P. Burns Lectures and Seminars on Structural Innovations Endowment in memory of his student and friend Professor Robert P. Burns (’57). Catalano also gave a second gift of $400,000 — the largest outright gift at the time it was given in 2007 — to establish the Eduardo Catalano Endowed Lecture/Seminar on Innovations in Contemporary Architecture… Brian Dodge’s gift of $216,000 established the Wendy L. Olson (’90) Fellowship Enhancement Endowment for Public Service in Landscape Architecture… The firm of O’Brien/Atkins, led by two alumni, William O’Brien (’62) and John Atkins (’66) was the first firm to endow a partial graduate fellowship for the School of Architecture for $100,000. O’Brien/Atkins also provided annual support for the fellowship so that an award could be made by the department before the fund reached endowment.
