A Gateway for Visitors
Carroll Joyner had a vision. He wanted future generations of students and alumni to see the university that had given him so much. And when the doors to the new E. Carroll Joyner Visitor Center opened that vision became a reality.
Wanted: New Home. Must Accommodate 165,000+
Situated atop a bluff on the southern shore of Lake Raleigh on Centennial Campus, the Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center fulfills a 20-year dream for a formal gathering place for NC State alums. Made possible by a $5 million naming gift from Dorothy Dent Park of Ithaca, N.Y., the 59,000-square-foot facility honors both her late husband and his much-loved alma mater.
Above Par, Naturally
Come Spring 2009, you will not have to strain to hear the golf claps ’round campus and on the greens of the new Arnold Palmer-designed golf course on Centennial Campus. NC State’s men’s and women’s varsity golf teams and coaches will no doubt cheer for their new, permanent home at the PGA-sanctioned Lonnie Poole Golf Course. But they won’t be the only ones applauding. The course also will serve as an ongoing research site for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ number-one ranked turfgrass program as well as living laboratory for the College of Natural Resources’ nationally recognized PGA Professional Golf Management program.
Wolfpack In The New House
New and improved athletic facilities worth more than $136 million given by donors, alumni, Wolfpack Club members, season ticket-holders and fans have truly transformed the face of NC State athletics.
Don’t Give Up. Don’t Ever Give Up.
Jim Valvano’s place in Wolfpack history is legendary, as is his strength and fortitude in taking on cancer. During his famous ESPY Awards speech in 1993, Jimmy V. announced a rallying cry to our nation: “Don’t Give Up. Don’t Ever Give Up.” It is the thriving V Foundation, which has raised over $70 million for cancer research, that carries the torch for Valvano’s famous call to action to combat cancer through research.
Momentous Achievements - University-wide Projects
During the Achieve! Campaign for NC State, each college and unit developed a plan for the wise use of campaign proceeds. Each gave priority to programs designed to produce tangible — and sustainable — results. In the true, collaborative spirit of NC State, many of these initiatives cross traditional academic and industry boundaries, taking a multi-disciplinary approach to pioneer important new areas of study, research and innovation.
