No two companies better understand the implications of this trend toward the hybrid than Progress Energy and Duke Energy. That’s why both of the state’s largest electric utility companies have committed $1.25 million each over the next five years to the Advanced Transportation Energy Center (ATEC).

$11 Million Engineers ISE Success

Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) is no stranger to firsts. The ISE program was the first engineering curriculum to require a computer programming course — in 1968. In 2003, ISE became the first academic department in the world to own an Electron Beam Melting machine. And in September 2005, thanks to an $11 million contribution from Edward P. Fitts, NC State Distinguished Engineering Alumnus (’61), ISE became the first named academic department at NC State: the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Momentous Achievements - College of Engineering

In 1996, Dr. E. James Angelo, Jr. (’39) and his brother, William E. “Bill” Angelo (’42), established the endowed Ernest James and Ethel Hudgins Angelo Memorial Scholarship in memory of their parents to provide full tuition, fees, room and board to high-achieving recipients making a difference in the lives of others through engineering and a respect for the environment… A $1 million gift from the Lampe family, which has a long history with the College of Engineering, created a $1 million professorship ($666,000 plus state matching funds of $334,000) within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.. Having a historic connection to the College of Engineering and NC State at large, Clancy & Theys established the Clancy & Theys Endowed Professorship. Created by brothers Tim and Tick Clancy to honor the general contractor company’s deceased founder, E.I. Clancy, the professorship was endowed by the company for $1 million, triggering $500,000 in matching funds from the state of North Carolina… Tom (’71, ’74) and Mimi Cunningham have established a $1 million bequest with the NC State Engineering Foundation.
