Situated atop a bluff on the southern shore of Lake Raleigh on Centennial Campus, the Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center fulfills a 20-year dream for a formal gathering place for NC State alums. Made possible by a $5 million naming gift from Dorothy Dent Park of Ithaca, N.Y., the 59,000-square-foot facility honors both her late husband and his much-loved alma mater.

Above Par, Naturally

Come Spring 2009, you will not have to strain to hear the golf claps ’round campus and on the greens of the new Arnold Palmer-designed golf course on Centennial Campus. NC State’s men’s and women’s varsity golf teams and coaches will no doubt cheer for their new, permanent home at the PGA-sanctioned Lonnie Poole Golf Course. But they won’t be the only ones applauding. The course also will serve as an ongoing research site for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ number-one ranked turfgrass program as well as living laboratory for the College of Natural Resources’ nationally recognized PGA Professional Golf Management program.

Don’t Give Up. Don’t Ever Give Up.

Jim Valvano’s place in Wolfpack history is legendary, as is his strength and fortitude in taking on cancer. During his famous ESPY Awards speech in 1993, Jimmy V. announced a rallying cry to our nation: “Don’t Give Up. Don’t Ever Give Up.” It is the thriving V Foundation, which has raised over $70 million for cancer research, that carries the torch for Valvano’s famous call to action to combat cancer through research.

Momentous Achievements - Alumni

Kay T. and Edward E. (’52, ’53) Hood Jr. of Banner Elk and North Palm Beach, Fla., have established the Edward E. and Kay T. Hood Scholarship Endowment, the John T. Caldwell/Edward E. and Kay T. Hood Endowed Scholarship, and the Edward E. and Kay T. Hood Graduate Fellowship… A devoted philanthropist, Tab Williams (’50) has supported NC State for many years. His Charitable Annuity Lead Trust supports three NC State scholarships through annual gifts. He was a major contributor to the new Park Alumni Center on Centennial Campus… Anne and Pat Gavaghan, an All-American swimmer and five-time ACC Champion in the 200- and 400-yard butterfly, gave numerous donations to the Caldwell Fellows Scholarship Program, the Entrepreneurial Education Initiative and the College of Natural Resources.
